Psalmus Profanus, Op.29
For mixed choir
About this work
Psalmus Profanus began with a psalm from the Latin Vulgate, but as the music took shape, its sacred foundation began to fade. The very act of composing,of shaping sound and seeking beauty, became the true devotion. Finding no existing text that suited this transformation, I wrote my own: an ode to spring and nature in general, retaining the original Latin for its irreplicable rhythm.
The work opens with vital rhythms and dense harmonies that evoke the peeling of bells, with the choir proclaiming not a doctrine, but the joy of voices united in a common purpose. This energy softens in the central section, revealing the more placid side of the spring landscape. Gradually, the music thickens once more, returning to the initial theme to reach its conclusion.
