About this work
This lively seven-part rondo, preceded by a brief introduction, was composed in 2021. Three threads run throughout the piece: a homage to the Jazz Era, a disciplined engagement with Classical-era formal models, and an irrepressible sense of humour. The result is brisk, exuberant, and slightly tongue-in-cheek. It is well suited as the final piece of a concert or as a playful encore.
Originally written for saxophone quartet, the piece was later arranged for string quartet in anticipation of a performance that never took place. In that version, it was named a finalist in the 2nd Saad Haddad Prize (New York City, 2024). At Dr Haddad’s suggestion, the work was restored to its original instrumentation.
