English Català Awarded at the 2025 Orfeó Català Composition Competition I am incredibly happy and deeply honored to announce that I was awarded the prize for best composition in Catalan at the 2025 Orfeó Català Composition Competition. My composition, Els Reis, is based on a poem by Joan Maragall and scored for women’s choir and piano. It has been a deeply fulfilling experience to explore the colors and emotional range of this specific instrumentation, weaving the Catalan text into the musical fabric. The premiere of Els Reis will take place on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. I cannot imagine a more perfect venue for this music to be heard for the first time. To have the Orfeó Català bring this work to life on their stage is an absolute privilege, and I am counting down the days until the performance. Guardonat al Concurs de l’Orfeó Català de 2025 Em sento profundament afortunat d’anunciar que he estat guardonat amb el premi a la millor composició en català al Concurs de Composició de l’Orfeó Català de 2025. La meva composició, Els Reis, es basa en un poema de Joan Maragall i està instrumentada per a cor de dones i piano.  Explorar els colors d’aquesta instrumentació específica, teixint el poema de temàtica nadalenca i nostàlgica dins de la narrativa musical ha estat una experiència molt enriquidora. Ensemble for These Times Call for Scores I am pleased to share my selection for the recent call for scores for solo piano organized by Ensemble for These Times (E4TT). The performance featured the first movement of my Piano Sonata, Opus 12. E4TT is a chamber group and organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, focusing on performing 20th and 21st-century music that addresses relevant and compelling themes. A core part of their mission is to promote the work of contemporary composers, especially those whose voices have been historically underrepresented. The premiere of the first movement of my Sonata was given by the distinguished concert pianist, Dr. Dale Tsang, at the Berkeley Piano Club on 22 February, 2025. Subsequent performances were given on 2 March 2025 at the San Francisco Community Center and on 13 March 2025 at Recital Hall, Cal State University, Santa Monica, California. I am grateful for the opportunity to have my composition included in this project and thank E4TT and Dr. Tsang for their support of new music. You can read the official annoucement here. English Català Sant Antoni Borough Competition Award I am thrilled to announce that I have won this year’s Sant Antoni Borough Composition Competition (Concurs de Composició del Barri de Sant Antoni) in Barcelona with my composition Roses, Op.16. The jury for the competition included the distinguished composers and professors Carles Josep Comalada, Xavier Boliart, Victor Estapé, Murat Khupov, and Benjamin Davies. English Català Catalan Youth Choir Competition Awards First rehearsal (Palau de la Música, 16 May 2021). I am pleased to share that I won first prize in all three categories of the Second Composition Contest of the Organization of Youth Choirs of Catalonia (Cors Joves de Catalunya). The requirements were a moderate difficulty level and a Christian religious text that wasn’t commonplace in musical settings (e.g. not an Ave Maria or Te Deum). There were three independent categories: SA choir with piano or organ, SATB choir a cappella, and SATB choir with piano or organ. The awarded pieces were: Ecce Panis (Behold the Bread) – SSA choir and piano Domine Iesu (Lord Jesus) – SATB choir a cappella Mane Nobiscum (Remain with Us) – SATB choir and piano I was very, very surprised when I was notified in November 2020 that I’d won in all three categories, plus an extra honorable mention for another piece, Nocte Surgentes (that was probably a bit too difficult for the requirements of the competition). The first and third numbers will be premiered in Barcelona at Palau de la Música on 30 May 2021. The three awarded pieces have been grouped into my opus 14. Poster of the concert.
